Ship Rock Aquatic Reserve, South Sydney

Tender documentation for the pedestrian access upgrade of a steep reserve in Burraneer Bay. The design resolution included a series of stairs, lookout points and bridges with littoral rainforest planting.

A new elevated stairway was constructed to provide safe access between Shiprock Road and the waterfront. The walkway was constructed from a combination of aluminium and formed plastics, with on-ground landings of sandstone paving. Signage provides interpretive information on the littoral rainforest, local Aboriginal heritage, the Shiprock Aquatic Reserve and the bequest from Mrs Sinclair. Lighting allows for safe usage after dark.

The existing remnant littoral rainforest trees on the reserve were preserved with revegetation works carried out on the understorey to stabilise the banks and reduce silt run-off to Shiprock Aquatic Reserve.
